F.A.Q.

WHAT IS PARAGLIDING

Often mistaken for a parachute, the Paraglider is in fact a wing which follows the same principles of aerodynamics as any other aircraft. The paraglider wing is a fabric aerofoil shape with holes in the leading edge (front) for the air to enter and closed on the trailing edge (back). Air flows inside and inflates the canopy to the shape of a wing.

A paraglider is constructed of rip-stop nylon from which the pilot (and passenger) is suspended by strong Kevlar lines. These high-performance fabrics coupled with a growing comprehension of micro-meteorology have permitted the maximum safety in this incredible sport. The harness in which the pilot (and passenger) is secured also acts as a seat during the flight. You actually enjoy the feeling of fly like a bird in true sense.

HOW SAFE ARE PARAGLIDING JOY RIDES

The construction of a paraglider with its thin lines and light canopy may appear delicate and unstable to the average person, but, the fact of the matter is, the opposite is true!

Paragliding safety is a combination of excellent equipment and experienced & knowledgeable pilots who have superb ability to handle Paragliders. All of our Sr. Pilots who accompany you on Joy Rides have a vast experience of Tandem Paragliding and have flown at various places in different conditions. We only use safe world class equipment so that you can fully enjoy your flight with no compromise on safety.

Statistically Paragliding Joy Ride with experienced pilot is safer than driving on roads.

IS IT SCARY

Some passengers feel apprehensive before the launch but once airborne, are surprised how easy it is. With the use of advanced equipment, the launch is smooth and gradual. In flight one really feels the support of the paragliding wing and it is a pleasure sitting comfortably in the harness and having a ‘flying chair’ experience. And from ‘that chair’ one can have a vast and wonderful view of the beautiful earth underneath. The joy ride is a unique experience in itself with the climb rate & sink rate equivalent to what you almost feel in a lift (elevator) in any high rise building. The pilot and passenger can converse easily during the flight allowing the pilot to direct the passenger about using the camera to capture those life time moments. Touching the ground is another unique moment.

Almost all Joy Ride flyers report having experienced amazing flight moments and have given SkyVentures good word of mouth publicity.

AGE LIMIT ?

Nobody is too young or too old to fly.

Passengers between the ages of 8 – 84 have soared through the air with us. All that we request is a signed consent form by parents/legal guardians for children and teenagers under the age of 18.

I’M NOT A FITNESS ENTHUSIAST, CAN I FLY

Is not necessary to be an athlete for Paragliding Joy Rides. It only required a standard physical condition, nothing more! Even people with sedentary lifestyle can do it.

WHAT HEIGHT IS NORMALLY GAINED IN JOY RIDE

We can reach a height of 500 to 800 feet above ground level. This height gives a three dimensional view of the earth.

IS PARAGLIDING LIKE PARASAILING, PARACHUTING, BASE JUMPING

These other activities are often confused with paragliding. Parasailing is what you do out on the ocean behind a boat OR a Jeep. You have no steering control on a parasail, and you are at the mercy of the boat/jeep operator. Parachutes are used in skydiving from an airplane and are designed to be deployed during a free-fall from an airplane and to then descend to the ground. Base jumping is a form of skydiving. Base jumpers leap from Buildings, Antennas, Span, or Earth. Base jumpers experience free fall before deploying their parachutes and descending to the earth. Paragliders are different in many ways from these other activities. Paragliders are not deployed. We inflate our paragliders and fly them upwards like a kite, and ease them overhead. A Paraglider is already inflated while we are on the ground before it begins to fly. We don’t leap off a cliff or mountain hoping the paraglider is open and ready to fly. We can check the glider and abort before we launch if we don’t see something we like. We launch with the help of motor or winch once our gliders already inflated overhead ready to fly. Paragliders are much lighter and aerodynamic, designed to go up rather than down. Our gliders don’t endure the stress to the lines that parachutes lines do with a shock load opening. Paragliders can soar for hours and cover great distances. The feeling of flying a paraglider can be very peaceful and serene.
